Is it time yet?
circa 12/1997, SBN interview with Toshiba's Kawanishi:

SBN -- Based on your long experience in the semiconductor industry, what do you think the future holds?
Kawanishi - -Unlimited prospects. Semiconductors are the crude oil of the 21st century. But the success of individual companies isn't guaranteed. Every company has a hunting license. How well they use it determines their fortune.

SBN -- What do you see as the top challenges facing the semiconductor industry for the next century?

Kawanishi --First, how do we transition from 0.25-micron deep-UV lithography to 0.18-micron processing, and then move to argon fluoride 193-nanometer wavelength deep-UV below 0.18-micron? [But] this transition is already well underway and we should see production systems by the turn of the century.

Sixth, what comes after Intel? Many people ask, "When will Intel's microprocessor dominance disappear?" That could come as new graphics applications change the PC market dramatically. Some clever manufacturers may make a very cheap microprocessor optimized for graphics at one-tenth the price [of a Pentium].

Then more recently we have this news from INTC:
Intel Corp. says PCs could be turned into “dumb terminals” if a bill on digital copyright now before the U.S. Congress is passed.

So I ask you. Does AMD make "a very cheap microprocessor optimized for graphics at one-tenth the price?"
...Or does it just want to take over the largest teat of INTC's "Cash Cow?" <Hoo Hoo>
