Rice, die bemerkte, wie erstaunt der Brasilianer ob der Frage war, rettete die Situation, indem sie Bush aufklärte: "Präsident, Brasilien hat wahrscheinlich mehr Schwarze als die USA, man sagt, es ist das Land mit den meisten Schwarzen außerhalb Afrikas." Cardoso urteilte hinterher: Was Lateinamerika betreffe, befinde sich Bush "noch in der Lehrzeit".

Bush, 55, (the USA) and Fernando Henrique Cardoso, 71, (Brazil) Bush astonished his colleague with the question: "you also have black ones?" ("DO you have blacks, too?") Rice, noticing how astounded the Brazilian President was at the question, saved the situation, by clarifying Bush's question: "Mr. President, Brazil has probably has more blacks than the USA; it is the country with the most blacks outside of Africa." Cardoso opined afterwards: Where Latin America is concerned, Bush "is still in training". |
