It may seem counter- intuitive, but the telecom recession will be a good thing LT for Cisco, as it's doing a fine job on Cisco's "competition". Both old NT and LU are increasingly linked to the "B" word. (And where are those guys who claimed that Cisco would never exceed those two old companies in revenue?)

Further, combining companies in dire straights like Juniper and Unisphere is often a signal of desperation on their parts. That almost never works. Has Juniper's management yet admitted their huge losses of market share?

As a car buff, they look like a Studebaker-Packard analogue. The combination of two once fine companies unable to withstand the overwhelming financial and market clout of the much larger competition. The difference here (in retrospect) is that Studebaker was probably in a better position. At least they had the American rights to Mercedes. (But they let that go too).
