Did you object to the fire bombings of German cities in WWII?

Did you object to dropping the atomic bombs on Japanese cities?

My guess is that if you take that question seriously, you are the only one on the thread able to answer that question with a yes or no. None of the rest of us were of an age to be able to consider the options.

Were those actions unjust warfare? Not an easy question to answer. There is a rather large literature about the atomic bombs issue some of which I've read and found inconclusive. Should Truman have ordered a bombing in uninhabited areas to demonstrate the power of the bomb? Should he have dropped only one? Should he have provided more warning to the Japanese? Lots of questions.

On the former, my guess is that it was unjust. Though I have yet to read about other options, the thinking of planners at the time, etc.

Life's not simple (he says again).
