Most of the price of jewelry is in the labor and markup. In Feb last year, I bought some nice pieces of Italian 18K gold jewelry. I weighed it and did the math. 1/10 the price of the pieces is in the PM. Gold will have to be $2500/oz before I even break even. But then I don't buy jewelry as an investment, and I doubt others in the US do either. The vast majority of gold jewelry I see advertised isn't even 18K. 10K and 14K are typical. No one is going to turn that junk in, except the very ignorant. But Asia is another story.
