Electronic Shelf Labels Get an Upgrade ... WiFi Arrives

Electronic shelf labels are nothing new. However, the Pixio Corporation is bringing things to another level. Launched in 2001, the Oregon-based vendor provides retailers with a solution that grants customers access to in-depth product information much like that found on the Internet.
According to The Business Journal of Portland, ShelfSeller displays are connected to a wireless network and maintained by the company to allow both retailers and manufacturers to update product information in real-time.
The point-of-purchase merchandising systems are fashioned much like an ATM-styled kiosk with a five-button navigation pad. Pixio's product will allow retailers to assist consumers in researching individual products such as parts or accessories to ensure that they’re compatible with previously purchased items.
In addition, the system can calculate reports on customer use of displays, detailing which products are being viewed most often, thus allowing retailers and manufacturers to strategize based on consumer interest. Pixio expects to charge $290 per month for installation, maintenance, and support of each unit, which will include unlimited access for updating content, viewing navigation logs, and repositioning units within stores.
Possibly the best asset these systems offer retailers is their ability to increase sales without increasing headcount, training, or promotional expenses. Electronic shelf labels are good, but these may be even better, just ask Camera World who is already running a trial of the ShelfSeller displays.
