Carl:

Yes, we are generally on the same wave length.

The environmental items are simply cost adders, but, in many cases necessary. I do not doubt but that we may produce adequate energy here at home in U.S. Yes and no: yes we have it, no we do not have it at current prices. For so much higher energy prices would spell disaster, just could not afford to pay.

The effects of higher energy prices would impact us all, life simply would not continue as it is now.

There are many things which could disrupt our oil umbilical cord. You identify an especially good one. Our military capabilities are great and any foul play will be met accordingly. Unfortunately this does not change a basic tenant which is that much of the oil that we depend on does not belong to us. I cannot see the country supporting use of military force to secure oil that we have no moral or legal claim to. If they do not want to sell it to us, or at too high a price, there is not so much that we can do about that. We should not use military force to get things that we do not have claim to (smacks of Hitlet, for one thing). Besides, military force has big limitations, for example it would not be much use to destroy the thing we seek to secure.

At the moment things are looking pretty good. We need their oil and they want (and need) our money. Neither commodity looks like it will run out right away (as you say).

Thank you for your submission. Seattle Val
