Yes, a big risk.
Well it was bad enough when AMD waited around for a Taiwan company to develop chipsets for the Athlon...now they are going to be at the mercy of one to actually make a CPU. This spells disaster to me.
On the plus side...at least they aren't subbing out the Opteron and chipset development seems on schedule there.
SO it's not nearly as bad as it could be IF Opteron makes it to market without too many hitches.

I'd feel better to see AMD take some kind of controlling stake in UMC...
