The Dutch didn't have the unbeatable military that the US h as. For one thing. The economic and production might is off the scale, no comparison.
I'm sorry you think I sound condescending. That's not the intent. I have no clue why y ou think that. I've treated Neo with more courtesy than the reverse, without the name-calling etc., just to be patient, since I think he's wrong and I'm willing to discuss it at length. He's not the only one with these views, and represents the administration opinion well, and, who knows, I might find out something that changes my mind.
As far as being Euro, I'm true-blue American, back a long ways, fwiw. I disagree, however, and distrust this and previous administrations, in their ability to restrict their military actions in any sensible way. There's too much pressure to expand, and all you need is secrecy and deception to have an overbloated military force looking for trouble. Maybe we're not there yet, but the problem is not only theoretical.
Here's the problem: I'm certain there are better solutions than what we're being offered. That's based on assumptions and on faith in our abilities as a country. I could be wrong. But the options aren't being discussed at a national level, such things as staying the hell out of areas with blood feuds that are none of our business.
I'm suspicious of all the ivory-tower theories why we "need" to apply military force everywhere. The past 50 years has shown excuses and mixed results, to say the least. |
