Pretty darn bad, IMO. I think the final thread of hope was slit, when I read the story that there was a plague of frogs in Hawaii, perhaps millions, with each having a 'croak' measured at 90 db; 90 db is the equilalent noise level of a lawn mower.

At least with the US and Soviet stalemate both sides pretty much believed there was no such thing as winning. Though the Soviets, on occasion, weren't sure.

In the case of India and Pakistan, that deterrence may not be real. If a conventional war starts, you hope that all the simulations done by the Army and DIA are wrong.
