Alcatel selects Infineon's Aware-powered ADSL Chipset
World’s Leading Supplier of DSL Equipment Enhances Its North American Litespan Platform – Alcatel Selects Infineon’s Geminax Chipset for Integrated ADSL/POTS Services
Munich, Germany and San Jose, Calif. – May 29, 2002 – Infineon Technologies (FSE/NYSE: IFX), a leading provider of integrated circuits for advanced communications systems, today announced that Alcatel has selected Infineon’s GEMINAX™ (Global Enhanced Multiport Integrated ADSL Transceiver) chipset as one of the solutions for its North American Litespan® next generation network digital loop carrier (NGN DLC) multi-service broadband access platform. The integrated voice and data chipset enables design of very high-density and cost effective linecard for lifeline voice and DSL based data services.
The Geminax chip is designed into the new Litespan 24-channel linecard, which will be exhibited for the first time in both company’s booths at Supercomm 2002 in Atlanta, Ga., June 4 – 6. Using the Geminax chipset, system providers can significantly increase line density in their access platforms, thereby enabling the acceleration of broadband deployment worldwide.
“We are very excited to be part of Alcatel’s Litespan system, the world’s most widely deployed integrated digital loop carrier with DSL,” said Christian Wolff, Vice President of Infineon’s Communications Business Group and General Manager of the Access Business Unit. “Improved density and reduced per port costs are a giant step forward in making the ubiquitous co-existence of voice and ADSL on every line a reality. This will lower operator costs and fuel broadband subscriber growth.”
Infineon built upon more than 15 years experience in production of analog and digital communications ICs to make the Geminax chipset a true global solution for integrated voice and DSL. The chipset is compliant with all worldwide standards for POTS and ADSL services and offers sophisticated power management features. Infineon provides extensive built in firmware support for both narrowband and broadband line testing. These features enable distributed line testing directly from the line cards, which significantly reduces provisioning and maintenance costs for network operators. The built-in test features also reduce the complexity and time required for production test.
