Energy Traders Have the Capital Game
Backwards

By James J. Cramer

Speaking of pathetic companies, have you noticed
that every one of these energy traders not only
likes dropping earnings bombs on our heads, but
also going for daylight saturation by demanding
more of our capital to boot? The gall!

One of the weirdest aspects of all of these energy trading companies is how they
all misjudged the amount of capital that was needed. Now, with their stocks being
vaporized, now, with their stocks vanishing by the hour, now they want money?

Doesn't it make you long for companies that
generate huge amounts of cash and aren't in need
of tapping the capital markets?

One of the things I always liked about some of the
better old-line companies is that they would do
spot equity offerings when their stocks were hot so
they could raise money. These energy trading
companies are doing just the opposite.

That's another reason they must be avoided at all
costs.
