A true story from my day- As you know, but probably no one else does, I called the city five weeks or more ago to come out and look at this ditch in our yard. The city has an easement that runs right down our property for water flow, and it has gotten worse and worse through the years. Last year they did a lot of work right below us and now the water seems to be stopping at our fence line and sitting. Plus during the huge storms this spring, it took out part of the fence both at the front and back of our yards where it runs through. In addition to turtles and dead fish, we get lots of trash and objects I don't wish to identify. So I thought it was time they helped us out, and I called. Two weeks ago, I called again as no one had appeared yet. I was very polite and nice, and told them how busy I knew they were, but we had standing water breeding cholera and e coli and terrible diseases in our backyard. Meanwhile Dan hauled the broken fence pieces away, and we debated what to put up because we have a pool and we know we need the fence but didn't want to start anything without knowing what the city would propose to do, since they had done enormous work in the yard below us, laying an attractive rock drainage thing. Last year when I called, they said they couldn't afford to do us yet. Sorry. Apparently they made it out today-- because in the front door I find a business card from a City Inspector. "Please call us about your property code violations." |
