Speaking of corrective shoes. I remember when I was about four, I went next door to visit my boyfriend, and his grandma was sitting on the front porch. For a long time afterwards, that was one of the most terrifying encounters of my life. This little old shriveled lady wearing a dark monotone of a dress, hunkered in a chair (rocking?) had this deep crack in the middle of her forehead that ran from temple to temple, and although she was kind, her injury scared the heck of me. Some time later, I would realize that that "crack" was actually the elastic band of the hairnet she wore. Was there a section in JC Penneys called Grandma fashions R us with these hideous outfits?
