Good post Goldsnow. But which nation so far has had military dictatorship and assasination and deposing of democratically elected leaders. Nehru was happy to side with the independent minded Kashmiris and have Kashmir remain independent. But the militant mood of the Pakistani generals then and now with a battle cry in the name of Islam is the cause of the turmoil

Who is in charge in Pakistan today? The only thing that is certain is chaos in Pakistan's political scene
