Having spent considerable time in Kashmir (1966-72), the MORI poll doesn't surprise me. Jinnah left a bad taste with the Moslem Valley with his contempt for them (as a lower order) and I heard many echoes of it two decades later.

The poll might have been more useful, however, had it broken down results between Jammu and the Valley.

He's history now, but I thought Sheikh Abdullah--the Lion of Kashmir-- was badly treated by Nehru. There might have been a possibility for autonomy with the Sheikh returned as Prime Minister.
