Edusoft Joins European Internet Courseware Consortium

By Tamir Eshel

Edusoft has joined a European consortium which is developing a network of laboratories for science teaching by Internet. If approved, the plan will be financed by European R&D, commencing January 1998. The amount is assessed at $5 million, and will come from the European research and development funds budgets.

The consortium includes national telecommunications companies of Germany, France and Italy, and from the universities of Athens, Milan and the British Open University. The plan is to set up a composite software system, enabling schools to teach sciences via the Internet, to share laboratory work and experiments, and to get feedback from university experts.

The proposed system will open up to school-goers a direct approach to appropriate information banks. Experiments will be conducted at schools in six European countries and at ten schools of the Israeli Amal network, with which Edusoft co-operates.
