I like nice watches, too, and have a good friend who is probably the only lawyer/watchmaker in the world. He found an old gold Omega for me that I really like but which was not terribly expensive. Unlike you, I won't splurge on timepieces. If I ever have more money than I need--probably do already if I want to live frugally for the rest of my life; that "need" thing is tricky and I'm having fun doing what I do--I might be tempted to have my friend look for a nice old Patek.
