Hi all; Rambus faithful find another straw to grasp, but Bilow breaks it:
CDW sam5a1, Yahoo Rambus thread #382116, June 1, 2002 I posted this on the Motley Fool board and I thought that I would give idiots like yern4, hope I spelled that worng, something to do this weekend. I know that I shouldn't, but I can't help myself. Sometimes I just have to bait some of our more noble posters here and on the Yahoo board. So, here's your new assignment: 1). Go to the CDW web site and, with the filters set on view all groups and view all manufacturers, explain why there are 476 products found when filtered for RDRAM and only 203* DDR products found.
2). Here is the link: cdw.com Please use the smart search for all desktops, this will also result in workstations being included in your search.
3). Please spend many hours checking each product that did not specifically spell out ddr, as theses may not have been included in the search results, so that you may include these in the total of ddr products. Please waste as much of your life as you want to.
I just like the fact that if you are browsing the CDW site, you will see many more products utilizing RDRAM: desktops and workstations included for those among us not smart enough to know what I am referring to. Just for fun, here is the link to a RDRAM AGP Video Card by INTEL: INTEL D850 P4 PGA423 ATX RDRAM AGP4X cdw.com
* the 203 products for DDR include all the video cards the CDW carries not just items such as computer desktops, workstations, networking card etc. Have a nice weekend all. messages.yahoo.com
Since I'm purported to be yern4, I went to the CDW web site, and just as sam5a1 says, there are more hits for RDRAM than for DDR. What gives? Well, in the search for DDR, only 9 motherboards are included:
(1) ABIT KX7-333 DDR DRAM ATA AMD (2) ABIT P4-478 ATX I845E DDR REALTEK (3) ASUS ATX MBD SA VIA KT266 SND DDR 5P (4) ASUS ATX MBD SA VIA KT266 5PCI DDR (5) ASUS ATX AMD A7V333 KT333 ATX DDR (6) FIRST INTL KT266A DDR 1GB 5PCI ATX (7) Intel D845BGL Pentium 4 Motherboard Intel 845 DDR Chipset (8) INTEL FCPGA 845G ATX DDR (9) MICROSTAR 845 P4 S478 DDR ATA133
But this is nowhere near all the DDR based motherboards available on CDW. For example the above list only includes one KT333 motherboard, but if you do a search instead for "KT333" instead of "DDR" you get four hits that weren't included in the "DDR" search, but all of which are, in fact, DDR based motherboards:
(1) ASUS A7V333 Motherboard (2) ASUS A7V333 Motherboard (3) Microstar KT3 Ultra Motherboard (4) Microstar KT3 Ultra-ARU Motherboard
In other words, the reason fewer DDR parts show up is that DDR is the assumed memory technology, or it's implied in the description of the motherboard. What else does "KT333" mean, other than DDR? RDRAM is the memory technology that has to be spelled out, DDR is the standard that is assumed.
But who wants to count motherboards? Everyone knows that the motherboard count is going to be lopsided in favor of DDR. So instead, lets look at the higher speed desktop computers. In this category there are 48 machines, and DDR beats RDRAM by 11 to 2. There are also another 6 machines that don't have enough description to distinguish the memory type, but are probably SDRAM or possibly DDR. Here's the numbers and a link to the CDW web site:
DDR: 11 RDRAM: 2 SDRAM: 29 Doesn't say: 6 cdw.com
In other words, the Rambus people lose again.
