Hello Carranza2, <<Do Timberland and Land's End go with super-complicated platinum wristwatches? vbg>> I have never thought about it, but on reflection, yes, probably, as they are all expected of nerdy engineering graduates that ended up in the financial/investment/consulting types of business activities. At least I only wear a suit perhaps once per year, and my shoes do not get dressier than Rockports:0)
The problem with watch hobby is the same with precious metal coins infection. The touch is magical, the shine mesmerizing, the drain on financial resources justified by ‘I am just swapping one kind of asset for another, and not consuming anything’. Well, they have proven to be good investment for the past few hundred years. Think about it ... holding history in your hand, ticking as complicate machines emulating the universe, that intersection between endless space and perpetual time. [EDIT: perhaps my next career can be advertising copy writer]
<<old … Omega>> be careful. The last well-known (but steel) Omega that changed hands at auction belonged to the guy (forgot name) better known as Lawrence of Arabia. USD 1.7 mm I think.
<<that "need" thing is tricky … tempted … a nice old Patek>> ... yes, for the next generation. Stop immediately all synaptic gap functions because you, my friend, are on slippery slope:0) But, if you want to be tempted … here is where you start (get to HK this week):
antiquorum.com
go through the catalog and see if you find any you want to put a bid on.
