SirRealist,

I likewise have observed many who simply don't think critically and see the strengths & weaknesses of their positions.... meaning they choose a viewpoint, sometimes due to family upbringing or class level

This is how culture is transmitted. Culture would not be possible without the human facility for holding a belief without understanding why. It is the nature of belief that they fade into the background and alter how we view the world.

I do not view this as a matter of critical thinking being lacking.

I tend to think most of us are more complex. I find myself liberal on some issues, radical on a few, conservative on some, and indifferent on some, as well.

Of course, I cannot know, but I would bet that there is an underlying belief that shapes your views. It might not easily fit into the offered categories. I have been trying to find a category for my beliefs for a while. I am a radical pragmatist libretarian.

Anyway, I think worldview is a powerful concept and relevant since 9/11. I was impressed that Molly was so aware of her worldview.
