Yeah, that was it. Luck and incredible timing. Of course! That's what the guy said after getting struck by lightning while playing golf on a hill in the rain.

I have to agree that it could have been just kismet and nothing else. Just ask Erika Greene if that doesn't sometimes happen despite long odds against it. But, I did read a book about 17 or 18 years ago that stated otherwise in this case. I can't be the only one who has read that book.

I remember distinctly that it gave the social connections between the parents and someone high up in IBM's management. The book was much broader in scope than just Microsoft. It also talked about the people involved in the creation of Apple. I just don't remember the name of it.
