"By the way, I'm using Netscape 6.2, if that makes any difference" it must. more than likely, 6.2 has just placed prefs.js in a different folder. it would be interesting to know if the same 'true'-'false' change took place. if you have the time, maybe you'd check your prefs.js file and see if this line exists: user_pref("browser.wfe.ignore_def_check", false) don't change anything, just take a look. i'm glad that ed's program got you fixed up. :)
