I appreciate your perspective. It is, I think, pretty much the common view. You refer to the "institutionalized raping of the common investor." I believe the problem is much broader. I hesitate to say this, knowing full well that it will bring down the wrath of the majority of those who may read these words. I'll say it nonetheless in the fervent hope that someone, somewhere, will think about it:

In my opinion, the raping of the common investor is merely an outgrowth of an unhealthy pro-business bias in our laws.

From the wealth of circumstances which illustrate the depth of the problem, I'll mention only two:

1) In what way is the extension of copyright protection to 75 years past the death of the author of a work beneficial to the humans among us?

2) When you travel with your wife and stay at a hotel and have dinner in a restaurant, does the government pick up a portion of your costs by allowing you to deduct the costs as "expenses"?

These things permeate our society. It is a tiny step from lobbying for an extension of copyright protection to lobbying for special treatment for a certain type of energy trading. When those we elect to represent our interests sell us out to commercial interests they are laying the groundwork for the institutionalized rape you mention.

This is probably the wrong forum for me to express such views, and I apologize for doing so.

Fred
