MSFT probably spent 15 mins making in change to how it delt with this minor change to lesson the abilities of QDOS to run better with this cheap processor...... that is how similar the two chips are.... You forget the drivers. Those are architecture specific and had to be written from scratch. Support for a new color display in particular proved to be difficult. and if you did know anything about QDOS, you would know that it was written for the INTC 8086.... the 8088 is exactly the same as the 8086 except for INTC made it cheaper by making a minor change.... I know that. You overestimate yourself and underestimate others. The main difference between the 8086 and the 8088 is the size of the external bus (16 bit vs 8 bit, resp.).
