Re: Certainly you're not stupid enough to try and compare Transmeta and VIA Designs, and Their Foundry Manufacturing, with intel for MicroProcessor Design And In House Manufacturing

Once the world decides it's 64-bit time, it doesn't much matter how much cash you've blown to build foundries that make 32-bit chips.

Ever hear of a company called Zilog? They dominated the microprocessor industry in the 8-bit era, taking the market for X86 CPUs (then 8080/8085) away from Intel with their Z80. Then IBM picked the 16-bit 8088 for the IBM PC and Intel was back being a contender in the microprocessor business. There was a company making blazingly fast Z80 compatible 8 bit chips, using ECL, for a while, running close to 100mhz when the 8088 was at 5MHZ, but no one cared, since it wasn't "16-bit."

We may be facing another inflection point in the history of the computer business.
