That's for sure! I remember clearly (mainly because I thought it was nuts) that IBM asked Intel for the 8088 version (Intel only offered the 8086 at first) just to save 8 lousy data bus pins on the packages - gotta save them pennies you know. IBM took one of the better chips of the time and choked it. The 8088 wasn't much better than the older 8080.
