Starbase Management Console Enables IT Group to Balance IT Investments

SANTA ANA, Calif., June 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Starbase Corporation SBAS, a leading provider of enterprise application management solutions designed to speed the software development lifecycle, today announced that Siemens Information and Communication Networks (ICN), a business unit of the leading global electronics and engineering company Siemens AG SI, has implemented Starbase CaliberRM and Starbase CaliberRM Pro to enforce their IT Process Guidelines (ITPG) -- a set of general guidelines and methodology for the lifecycle of Siemens ICN's IT products that help align their IT processes with corporate strategy.

"CaliberRM operates as both a requirements management and portfolio management tool," stated Ken Battles, IT process and project manager for Siemens ICN. "All project information for our entire suite of IT investments can be viewed from the management console, as one set of interrelated activities in a central place. With complete visibility on each project, we have been able to balance IT investments in terms of size, risk and projected payoff; and expose projects that are redundant or risky."

Using CaliberRM, Siemens ICN has created a single repository for requests, status information, issues, actions, references and project discussion -- centralizing requirement data in a management console format for easy viewing by distributed team members. Centralizing the information has saved the company significant time by eliminating redundant requests or the likelihood of having two or three teams evaluating the same project.

Continued Battles, "CaliberRM supports us in enforcing and refining ITPG to increase our control over the software development lifecycle. It has provided us with increased control over our requirements definition and management process and has facilitated communication between our global project teams. CaliberRM's combination of power and flexibility has been extremely beneficial to our organization."

CaliberRM's Web-centric architecture provides Siemens ICN with a single point of entry for all IT product requests. Using the company's intranet, staff and management can easily log in to the system at any time to learn the status of a request, review request and project details and statistics, and obtain a quick overview of projects in the pipeline.

"CaliberRM provides Siemens ICN with a single, automated repository and helps insure that requirements drive the development of the company's approved pipeline," stated David Schwickerath, senior vice president of Starbase. "CaliberRM helps organizations like Siemens ICN increase the overall quality of their applications and ensure they meet customer expectations."

"We were thrilled with how quickly we were able to get up and running and still have the flexibility to evolve our IT processes," added Battles. "The recent addition of CaliberRM Pro, for instance, has further automated our processes so that now, with the press of the button, we can automatically generate charts, graphs, and alerts for such concerns as going over budget or exceeding the allotted time frame. This has helped immensely -- previously these reports had to be completed manually."

CaliberRM has equipped Siemens ICN with a highly configurable feature-rich solution that has the flexibility to support ITPG without compromising on functionality. Together, CaliberRM and CaliberPro help enforce the company's ITPG and contribute to the company's TL9000 compliance.
