FYI, only now Muslims are an overwhelming majority in Kashmir. At the time of independce there are about 50 Muslims and about 47% Hindus.

India and even the UN has an obligation not just to Kashmiri Muslims, but also to the Kashmiri Hindus. Even more than the Kashmiris, the Indian government has an obligation to protect more than 160 million Muslims living in India. It is widely believed that, if and when India parts with Kashimir, there will be several million fewer Muslims living in India.
