That's an interesting observation.

When I was growing up, it's true that Oakand was considered an inferior wood. It was used in school desks and other cheap, sturdy, plebian types of furniture. You would find Oak sold in stores that sold cheap, unfurnished furniture for starter apartments and first houses.

Oak was fine for flooring. But not for fine furniture.

Now that you mention it, none of the furniture I have bought is oak. I use oak plywood (edge banded) for bookshelves, but not for anything else.
