was just wondering if you knew who captured Berlin at the end of WW II.

The following USSR army groups fought in the "Battle of Berlin"
the First and Second Belorussian Fronts and the First Ukrainian Front, which boxed in Berlin from the North, West, and South, attacked. By April 24 the three army groups had completed the encirclement of the city.

In terms of losses suffered by the Germans during WW2, the USSR forces were responsible for about 75% of the casualties inflicted. Here is a good site.

But WW2 was a hell of a close run thing imho. Although the Japs had taken on a giant, the USA people of the day were not over keen on fighting new wars (as were most of the Allies) The race to Nuclear arms was also on...good thing the USA got there first. Britain and the USA contributed in a big way to the material used by the Soviets...and not belittling the very bloody tough battles that were fought on the continent. The Officer prisoners in "Colditz" said (after the war) they were lucky because every single free officer in their brigades was killed during the advances from Normandy to Germany.

The Russians had the best tanks (and much more of them) The USA and Britain had some really good planes including heavy bombers.

That's the 3 minute wrap of WW2. Miss anything important? Ok war in the Pacific, Africa, and the Far East campaigns.

/edit. not to forget the Mediterannean campaign, Italy, and the Battle of the Atlantic either,
