Tekelec Announces Advanced Signaling Architecture - TekWare
Intel® Multi-processing Technology Provides High-speed Performance
biz.yahoo.com
MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 2002-- Tekelec (Nasdaq: TKLC) today announced the introduction of TekWare(TM), a modular, open-systems, high-capacity architecture for signaling and integrated service applications.

TekWare enables the consolidation of multiple network elements and applications, which streamlines the network, facilitates the delivery of value-added services, and centralizes administration and maintenance.

The company worked with Intel Corporation on the design of the flexible, modular architecture, incorporating the Intel® Xeon® processor, the Intel® E7500 chipset, and the Intel® IXP1200 network processor.

The first implementation of TekWare will be TekServer(TM), the company's new services platform. TekServer will enable a variety of intelligent network (IN) and Internet protocol (IP) applications, which require high-transaction speeds and low latency. It can be deployed as a stand-alone server or integrated directly into the EAGLE® 5 Signaling Application System (SAS), to facilitate dramatic increases in performance, enabling the delivery of high-capacity, advanced network applications. TekServer will be running the Linux(TM) operating system enhanced for use in carrier-grade environments.

"Our customers need to reduce operating costs, generate revenue, and optimize capital investments," said Lori Craven, vice president and general manager of the Tekelec Network Systems Division. "These drivers have been key in the development of TekWare. The innovative technology is the architectural foundation for the future direction of our signaling and services business. TekWare is backward compatible and allows us to deliver at least a fourfold increase in link capacity and enhance application performance tenfold(1)."

Joe Jensen, general manager, Embedded Intel Architecture Division, said "The dual Intel® Xeon(TM) processors with Hyper-threading technology, validated with the Intel® E7500 chipset, provide added processing power at an improved price performance ratio. In addition, rapid throughput enabled by the processor platform will drive high-capacity, complex network applications with low latency."

Intel's dual Xeon processors enable TekWare to yield a greater than 1,000 percent increase in SS7 over IP signaling transport speed, for up to 50,000 transactions per second(1). With the Intel IXP network processing technology, TekWare implements a switching backplane to allow multiple TekServers to operate in a scaleable, fully integrated, EAGLE 5-compatible system. Routing delays are minimized, enabling the deployment of advanced applications such as monitoring, security, fraud control, 800 service, calling name delivery, and flexible routing.

Tekelec will display the new TekServer platform at the 2002 Supercomm tradeshow in Atlanta, June 4-6, booth 11517, Hall C.
