Elmer, Re: “There's a big push to achieve breakthrough performance in 90-nm [for our communications chips],” Maloney said. “We're looking to do more and more [at the 90-nm node] as we drive through the 0.35- and 0.25-micron geometries. We're looking to leapfrog a [device geometry] generation,” he said.

Going from .25u to .09u is skipping two process generations. That would surely put Intel in a huge competitive position in their communications market, and it also explains why they continue to invest so much in manufacturing capacity. Clearly, they intend to leapfrog the competition and put themselves 1-2 generations ahead of anything else on the market.

Of course, this still won't convince the clueless 'Droids who still think that Intel will have over-capacity concerns. <G>
