Sonki - Re: "why should it take until mid 99 for pizza to be delivered?? I will starve by then. "
This is known as the "Dominos" effect. If you don't get your pizza wafers within 24 months, they will be "free".
Re: "When will intel take delivery of this equipment?"
Intel already has some first generation prototype equipment, However, these need to be evaluated, modified, improved, updated, replaced, etc. It is a long involved process.
Re: "If you buy this 12" equipment, is predetermined to be used for .18u. Can you process .25u and later use the same machine for .18?"
The lead times are such that it makes sense to specify 0.18 micron capability for the 300 mm equipment. By the time 300 mm is ready to go, the process requirements will be for 0.18 micron (or better!) minimum feature size. Of course, larger feature sizes such as 0.25 micron are readily accomodated.
If you own INTC and AMAT, you're in for a better time than you've already had (excluding the down draft that AMAT took last year). AMAT is growing like crazy. Take a look at PRI Automation as well - for a key robotics, material handling and automation vendor to the semiconductor industry.
