A lot of the old-timers in India reminisce fondly about how orderly things were during the British days. For a few decades, after the British left, the institutions that they left behind worked but the country was essentially running on fumes. Now even the fumes are gone!

The rot is not confined to any one part of life. Every aspect of life -- administrative systems, justice systems, basic education system, health-care... you name it, is gone. Even the much talked-about "scientific and technological progress" is BS. Fifty years after the British left, India still makes passenger train coaches where the sh*t still falls on the railway tracks -- makes quite a sight on Indian railway platforms, especially if you have gone for sight-seeing! ;-)
