I was a soccer mom....

Well.... long story to explain, but in short, soccer is a wide-world sport that for some strange reason was never popular here... (USA)

Then in the late 70's (i think) there was a MAJOR effort to plant the seed for soccer and many former greats of the sport were paid millions to play in the young MLS teams...

At first, it seemed as though such effort would never pay off, as the resulting USA team continued to be slapped and humiliated in the years to come...

Then as those former stars began to retire, the MLS faltered too, as the young talent still had a lot of shortcomings...

But...

The seed was planted as slowly but surely, these soccer moms started to build what really creates a great team, and that is, soccer has to be in your blood and unless the child is bred soccer (i.e. sleep it, eat it, dream it etc etc), they never will become great players...

Well.... fast forward to the future and guess what ...?

The girls took it on fast and they became WORLD CHAMPIONS (twice) and believe me they play mean soccer.

So the boyz were (are) on the spot now to equal the feat... (granted a far more daunting task) I mean you do not beat Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Germany and the rest of the great soccer countries just because you wish it... you have to play brilliant soccer to do that.

** But if the French did it in the last WC ** the USA certainly has hope -ggggggggg

They may not be there... yet... but the way they played Portugal earlier today was superbly inspired (particularly the first half).

Getting an early and healthy lead over Portugal is no small potatoes... (3 x 0 ) with the final result 3 x 2 (including an "own-goal" that gave the Portuguese their 2nd goal)

So all this to: Thank you and all the soccer moms of the USA, for this is how you create a future World Champion...

Now, it will be up to them boyz to complete the task.

Keep it up, we may need another generation to achieve it, and best of all... the soccer fever is already well in place, it is now in the blood of many US boys and girls and that is what it will take to produce a generation of champions (well... the girls, as I said, have already done it)...

Now... you better find a new name for that Rugby game with helmets, as the true name of soccer is FOOT BALL -gg

[Fútbol -- in Spanish; Fútebol in Portuguese and so on]

A million thanks !
