Porchers: Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers...

My grandfather just passed away in the last 24 hours -- He's in a better place now. Yet, I was able to spend some quality time with him in Florida a few months ago and again in Michigan over this past weekend.

Its amazing how much we can learn from our grandparents and we should not take them for granted...I have been fortunate to grow up knowing mine...Yet, I now have just one left.

My grandfather lived a good long life and in some ways was a renaissance man. When he was younger then I am he already had 3 kids and he commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to build a house for the family in Kalamazoo, Michigan...Mr. Wright came to visit my father's family and helped supervise the building of the home. My grandfather also practiced law for over 60 years and found some unique ways to contribute to the community. This past Sunday he was with me and my father and all my uncles. Even though he was on a lot of pain medications (for his advanced prostate cancer) he still found strength to talk with people...He told us over and over again that the most important thing is family and friends. Later that afternoon while the head violinist from the local symphony (a close family friend) was playing some Bach for my grandfather, he told me that he could go out of the world listening to music like that. That evening before my grandfather slipped into a deep sleep he told me that as the oldest grandchild I must be strong and carry on. He is right. My grandfather taught me a lot and in about 10 days the family will gather to celebrate his life.

Thanks again for the thoughts.

regards,

-Scott
