It is my impression that only the HDD (disk drive) portion of the business is going to Hitachi. It is currently a money loser in a commodity situation. IBM is actually receiving cash and a partner in some areas of storage controller HW & SW where money is being made and growth is expected. The SW area is where big bucks will be made according to most of the material I have seen. I listened to the conference call yesterday evening and was pleased with the decision to move away from the aluminum interconnect foundry business. They mentioned additional copper capacity coming on line the second half of this year. That is where the growth and margins should be. The timing seems almost perfect. Any thoughts?
