It seems as if we agree that something needs to be done. One of my points was that I don't think the Levin bill is necessarily the right approach to fixing the problem. Your post points clearly to Congress as how this mess got started. Why can't FASB be left to solving the problem that apparently they were not allowed to 10 years ago? The system was broken because Congress was allowed to exert influence over an independent organization most qualified to deal with the issue. Why not give the assignment to FASB where it belongs and work to keep them as independent as possible. Congress is not the place to turn to fix the problem unless they help put the problem in the hands of independent and competent professionals.
