Ummm....
Would you find me a politician who never broke a campaign promise? Just one?

I mean a national politician or one who has won multiple elections, not some one-termer who got thrown out.

Now breaking those promises certainly is no virtue. But it is a fact of politics.

President Bush has recently taken to amusing audiences by recounting how, during the campaign, he promised never to run a deficit except in case of war, recession, or national emergency. The problem is that there's a long record of Bush promising not to touch the Social Security surplus--but no record of him ever listing these exceptions.
Oh, come now. Let's be real. War or national emergency in particular are perfectly justifiable reasons to abrogate ANY campaign promise. In fact, his oath of office essentially requires him to do so. He would be remiss in his duties if he did NOT.

Or would you prefer to be forced to wear a burqa so that the SS fund will be intact for the Taliban to steal?
