If the government gets into broadband the winners will be decided on a political and not an economic basis. Woe to the small guys who cannot afford to buy a politico. Look at how the telcos have been able to stop a lot of development and opening of markets even though the law ostensibly favors it. Also note the ad hoc wireless broadband local nets that are springing up around the world as folks get tired of waiting for someone to do it for them.
