Persuasion is, imo, Jane Austen's greatest novel. It is the most nuanced, because the characters are much more mature than most Austen characters. All her novels are fabulous, but to pick Persuasion as her masterpiece seems perfectly acceptable to me.

DIckens against Trollope? Hard call. Basically the work of a serialist novelist and social commentator against a political novelist. How can one compare the two? Both were masters of their genre, but the genre are different.
Ulysses I cannot stand so I would leave it off every list. It seems to me to be a cunning linguistic puzzle (Finnegan's Wake, even more so), but not a true work of literary art. But that's only my opinion. Parts of it are very beautiful, but the whole is incomprehensible and frustrating- that isn't what I think art should be.
