Charred- I am not immune to the desire to keep a pretty area pristine. But if the other potential deposits in the area work out, either by MAnhattan or someone else, which are NOT under the town, but in isolated areas, then there are going to be mines and smelters in the area anyways....... dont you think?? A great mining district will get mined, someday.
And if those other deposits are mined, even with the envronmental effects that you say, then there is little to left to the arguement to not building one additional mine at the town.... just the hassle of shifting people to better housing. So if this area has the potential that Claude and others have said in the past, face it, there will be mines.... whether this deposit is the first to be developed or the last (prob more likely now) it looks like it will happen sooner or later anyways. Philosophically, is it right to say there is no right to build mines there, so the world's industry, which we all use, including the people of Tambo grande, gets its resources from Sudbury or some other pretty place instead??? Al PS perhaps you're right about the company pulling the wool over the investors eyes. But we all knew the risks and the previous violence was known too.... |
