Franco, I am returning to the thread and intend to read all of what I missed
since my absence ( I have read ~ 40% of ti already ).
Re : " we had the shorts where we wanted them and the longs sold
out at 30 too soon ".
Franco I don't know how long you have been investing bot I have for
18 years. I have seen too much gore and bloodshed and " have become
very sensitive to ant potential for injury ". And this market is
very treacherous as we have posted before.I suspect a lot of
people out there feel this way too.So they sold. Or may be they are
playing games as David Potschka ( # 2684 ) nicely posted.
I got ground before and believe me it is not a good feeling, and you want
to avoid it.
I spent a lot of time this weekend reading the papers, magazines ets
about the market. Nothing that all of you don't alrady know. The infor
mation is there for everybody to see. The question is how do you
interpret it? Hitler's manoueverings immediately pre World War 2 into
neighbouring states wad known to ALL the European governments and
heads of state: Sie Winston Churchill was the only one who correctly
interpreted his evil intentions and everybody made fun of him and called
him a war mongerer. In the same fashion I suppose that Alan Abelson is now
called a party poop.
I think readers of this thread should read this week's Barron's,
" The Millenium Bug ", an interview with Fred Hickey:pretty scary
stuff: Companies spending al their technology budget for the nest
21/2 years to fix y2k problems with no money left to buy Intel, Compaq,
Dell.Furthermore Compaq slashes prices to fight Dell and both stocks
go up!
Nice article this am in the WSJ re investor/money manager paranoia
with mania/depression tinges currently parked on mania.
Maybe later I will review what worries me, on this thread.
Vivus is a grat company. However beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
Furthermore before we view Volcan and Twister, maybe will have to
see " Backdraft " first, as in a giant downdraft from market correction.
Wed the consumer price index is coming out; we'll see.
The gist of this weekend reading was buy more Gillette and GE at PE
of 50.
At this point I am parked in 100% cash. I may miss a little party
the next 2 months that will take me up 10 % .I am ging to gamble now
however on a bigger fall and a buy back at the bottom: sooner or later.
I can't predict what Vivus will do near term; could be up or down;
I am watching, trying to get my bearings.
Right now I am perched High Atop a Hill at peak #8000!!! lokking down
on Yellowstone river with a strong wind blowing on my back!!
It feels good I got a parachute (cash ).
