If I remember correctly, the Palestinians who were given sanctuary, at one time, by the Jordanians almost took over Jordan. Fortunately, the Jordanians saw through them in time and kicked them out.

The Israelis gave back the Sinai because it is largely desert and it is not of strategic importance to either country. But the Israelis would not surrender the Golan Heights because giving up the Golan Heights is tantamount to committing suicide.

The capture of the Golan Heights was done with much patience and meticulous planning. For years the Israelis had a spy who succeeded in infiltrating into the upper echelons of the Syrian Air Ministry. This spy befriended and gained the confidence of some key Syrian personnel. He regularly radioed back vital info. By the time the shooting started between the Israelis and the Syrians, the Israelis knew the Golan Heights like they knew their own backyard, and Israeli jet pilots knew exactly where to go and they scored heavily. Before long, the Golan Heights was captured and occupied.
