Barrons and Weiss lists of stocks at risk for bankruptcy:

Barrons was focusing primarily on telecom's round 2:
------------------------------------------------------------
JDS Uniphase (I love Franz's hat)
Nortel Networks (that would make waves up in great white north)
Covad Commun
XO Commun (a new McCaw venture)
Sycamore Netwk (I hope not, I love these guys, from Boston)
Focal Commun
Allegiance Telecom
Nextel Commun (a patchwork discarded by McCaw)
--- (at risk, but less so)
Level Three
Corning (that would make big news)
Time Warner Telecom
Pac-West Telecom
Broadwing
WorldCom (eliminating MCI tracker)
Qwest (downgraded to junk recently)
Citizens Commun
Ciena
Sprint
Lucent (inevitable, got friends there)
AT&T Wireless (I hope so)
Riverstone
Juniper
AT&T (the big mama herself, I hope so doublely)
Century Tel

Weiss list with broad view (in order):
------------------------------------------
Avon Products
Campbell Soup (hmm hmm good)
General Mills
US Airways
Big Lots
Edison Internatl
Network Appliance (oy)
Pacific Gas & Electric
PMC Sierra (oy)
Raytheon (not a chance with defense)
TRW
Xerox (got bet with my CEO on BKcy before Nov15, 2003)
Xilink

comments:
I have found Weiss to be full of himself, but very competent
he has a great track record of predicting the dead meats
but he never seems to change his tune
from 1995 when I first subscribed to his newsletter service
he expected the Dow and Naz to crash in 1995, 96, 97, 98, 99
and got it right in 2000
he got Japan right in spring 2001 for a rollover
but he didnt change his tune there either
and Japan has seen a strong counter-trend rally this spring/summer
but that is sure to peter out, imho, and Nikkei retest 8500
since the entire run began in March with Repatriation
Tokyo has been running the financial markets with printing press
John Maynard Keynes would be proud

Barrons and Weiss make similar comments
all will not go bankrupt
but some and perhaps several will go bankrupt
and these are the most likely
