I think a lot more people would sign up for broadband if it weren't triple +/- the price of dialup.

I guess that depends on your particular situation. Many dial-up ISPs charge nearly $20.00 per month. As a matter of fact, I believe AOL now charges $21.95 per month for unlimited access.

1. I recently signed up for broadband access via a cable modem and bought the modem outright to eliminate the $5.00 per month modem "lease" charge, thus minimizing the monthly outlays for the service. After purchasing the modem outright, the total fixed monthly cost is only $29.95. At $29.95 per month, this is only 50% more than the fee countless dial-up ISPs charge per month for unlimited access.
