Speakers

Happily, today I received my ATCO "2.1 Super Audio System" - the two NeoPlanars and PureBass sub-woofer.

The UPS guy was impressed at the light weight of the boxes, considering their size. He mentioned that he'd "never heard of that brand before". I gave him a quick rundown of of what kind of speakers they were, and that there was some new technology involved, etc.

Being a UPS guy, he couldn't stand around to chat, which was just as well, because I wanted to get these things unpacked and running!

One of my NeoPlanars had a tiny bit of damage - a small abrasion along the edge of one of the Plexiglas panels, but I'm not going to make a fuss over it.

The installation was straightforward, as you know, from having your own.

The Moment of Truth arrived, and as is my tradition for testing any new sound system component, I put my Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs version of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" CD into the deck, turned up the volume, and let it rip.

The first thing that struck me was the incredibly deep and clear bass (the beating heart in the opening of the album). My previous speaker system included an unpowered 15" sub-woofer, but it didn't sound anything like this!

As the music progressed, I was taken by the "presence" of the sound. Cymbal smashes, ticking clocks, clock alarms (I love this music LOL!) all sounded as if they were right there in the room, live. I believe the word "tranparent" is also used to describe this sound - as if the speakers did not exist, and you were hearing the actual thing making the noise.

After listening to the entire album/CD, I must say that I was very pleased. These are certainly an order of magnitude better than what they replaced, and they look way cool, too.
