So if Arafat could never make a deal anyway, what was the point of ever talking to him in the first place?

Just for a little trip down memory lane, under Oslo Arafat received land and money and a 'police force' (now an army) so that he would be able to control the extremists. Except that he never wanted to control the extremists. Much too handy an excuse. Now it's too late.
