>>The right to practice the religion of your choice does not allow you to infringe on the rights of others.<<
But you didn't answer my question. How does killing the daughter "infringe" on her rights, if she agrees this is what her religion requires? This seems to fly in the face of your constitutional absolutism, doesn't it?
I'll give you an easier one--Fred, a Mormon, thinks that God has revealed he can have as many wives as he can support. Why can't he?
What if 20% of all Native-Americans took it into their heads that it was God's will that they acquire hunting rifles and kill any non-Native children they see in shopping malls, amusement parks and other public places & the first 5 such incidents have already occurred--100 children dead, including toddlers. If we "watch" Native communities & check their movements we are persecuting the 80% who don't believe this. If we don't, we cannot identify the 20% who do, and thousands upon thousands of children may die over many, many years. The Native radical sub-sect is also, for purposes of this hypothetical example, well-integrated into many Native communities, and has a known interest in acquiring sarin in order to poison thousands.
What to do? How do we protect the right of the children to live? |
